Seminyak is considered as a beach town of south Bali. The district of Seminyak covers central and outer Seminyak, Oberoi, Petitenget, Batubelig and kerobokan areas. Located further north from Legian, Seminyak is home for most ordinary to high-end restaurants, shopping centers, spas, accommodations and nightlife. Beaches in Seminyak are grey sandy beaches. These beaches are quieter than Kuta beach and they have great sunsets also good for swimming (between the safe flags) and beginner surfer. The development of this area make Seminyak more congested.
Canggu is a district about 15-20 minutes north of Seminyak, starting from Berawa Village to Cemagi Village which is including Batu Bolong beach, Echo beach, Nelayan beach, Pererenan beach, Pantai Lima beach, Seseh and Mengening beaches. The beaches characteristic are having black sand with big waves and strong current. Parts of them are good for surfing and not recommended for swimming. Much of the area features quietly terrain with rice paddies which is the personality of south central Bali. There are some good restaurants, especially located along the beaches and the present of Canggu Club makes the area even more upscale. Many budget to luxury villas built within this area.
Umalas is a residential area which is now considered as outskirt of Seminyak area. For those who seek for quiet, yet close to everything, this will be a perfect area. Many restaurants and villas are established here and some with stunning view of rice fields and river.
Bukit is an area of limestone peninsula. It is rugged and dry and prior to tourist development, this was a real backwater of Bali. The Bukit Peninsula features magical Cliff hanging Uluwatu Temple where you can watch Kecak dance, great beaches including Dreamland beach, Balance beach, Padang Padang beach, Nyang Nyang beach, Pandawa beach, others. These beaches are white sandy beach and great spot for surfing and swimming, still children must be under supervision. Most villas are setting as cliff-top villas with amazing sunset and some of them have their own beach club with private access to the beach. You may experience fine dining at some fine dining restaurants in some hotels. Mid-range of restaurants is also easy to find.
The southern part of Bali including central Nusa Dua, Tanjung Benoa and Sawangan where 5 stars hotels are hosted. Nusa Dua is also known as a home for most popular golf course and museums. The beaches are white sandy beach, deep, long and safe for swimming. The Nusa Dua enclave has three manned gates and everyone entering is subject to a security search. Ubud is a center of Balinese art in the foothills. Ubud has grown rapidly, but still quiet and there still terraced rice fields along the rivers, as Ubud main view. Restaurants, shops, spas, museums and other tourist attraction such as Monkey Forest, Bali Bird Park, Bali Zoo, Elephan Safari Park are easy to find in central Ubud, as well as the water rafting.
Sanur is known as Bali’s oldest upscale area with mature beach-side town. Regardless the plenty of accommodation and restaurants, it still offers quiet and relaxing area. Sanur more likely to appeal most to middle aged and families orientated. All beaches in Sanur are recommended for swimming and perfect for children. Sanur is home for annual International Kite Festival which take place in Padang Galak area every July. There are others places of interest in Sanur such as Le Mayeur Museum, Mangrove information center, Serangan Island Turtle conservation. Try kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, surfing or paragliding. For those less active, hire a banana boat and hit the calm waters.
For those who like to be in the tranquil place, may experience stay in East Bali which is a large region with natural habitat ranging from lush forests and black sand beaches to barren gravel plains and an active volcano. Candidasa, Mighty Mount Agung and Besakih Temple are located in this region. In the far east, Amed is slightly become popular with charming stretch of coast. Amed is an area of peaceful, traditional fishing villages featuring black sand beaches, coral reefs and excellent diving. You may visit Mount Batur in Kintamani for amazing scenery of great mountain and Tirta Gangga which known for its water palace.
This is the least populated and least visited region of Bali. It is dominated by the West Bali National Park and a huge area of protected reserve, much of which is completely uninhabited. Both the north and south coasts of this region offer quiet beaches but of a very different nature. Those in the north fringe calm seas which are excellent for diving and snorkelling. The southern beaches are wilder and include a number of renowned surfing spots. Menjangan Island, a small island off the north west coast with great diving is one of the places on interest you must visit, beside Pemuteran, great diving and beaches with a stunning backdrop of the western mountains and West Bali National Park for trekking, birdwatching and diverse marine life.
